Nicolas Derival: Next time I will do my utmost to get in the A-final of the World Draughts Championship

derivalNicolas Derival, international grandmaster from the USA, told about his game at the World Draughts Championship, impressions and dreams.

- In the championship of such a level I am playing for the first time, and I learned many new and interesting things. Unfortunately, I did not get to the A-final, but next time I will do my utmost to be there. In the consolation B-final I play with varying success. Now I fall three points behind the leaders. My family helps me a lot, they support me. After speaking with them I have inspiration to continue the game with renewed vigour, - said the draughts player.

In his predictions about the winners of the Championship, Nicolas Derival said:

- Alexander Georgiev is a good and strong player. But I would like that Roel Boomstra or N’cho Joel Atse become the champion. It is not interesting when one and the same person wins sever times in a row.

I had a chance to speak to Nicolas about his impressions of Bashkortostan and even about his personal life.

- Most of all what I remembered about this country is hospitable people. I like this quality, and I think about getting married to a Russian girl, - the sportsman said smiling. – But while the Championship is going on, I cannot get distracted. For this, I will come here later, - the sportsman promised.

Umar Tiero: In my experience no sportsman has been involved in the doping conflict during world draughts tournaments

docOn June 16 Russia celebrates the Day of Medical Worker. A representative of this respected profession attends the World Draughts Championship – Umar Tiero, representative of the FMJD Doping Committee.

A smart, hard-working and charming doctor does not allow himself to relax and unwind even on a holiday. I had a chance to put him off for several minutes to ask my questions. During conversation he told me that professional holidays are celebrated in America too, in particular, in New York, where he lives.

- Usually on professional holidays doctors organize conferences where they discuss global issues like cancer control, promotion of healthy lifestyle, doping issues and other things, - Umar told. – Because of my profession I have to travel a lot and, of course, to take samples from sportsmen. In my experience no sportsman has been involved in the doping conflict during world draughts tournaments, - said Umar.

It is worth mentioning that sportsmen have been tested before starting the World Draughts Championship and today on June 16. Three sportsmen of the leaders have passed this procedure – Alexander Georgiev (Russia), Jean Marc Ndjofang (Camerron) and Alexander Getmanski (Russia).

The results of the 6th round of the World Draughts Championship

The results of the 6th round of the World Draughts Championship are so unexpected that it is impossible to predict the end of the championship. Thus, in the B-final the number of candidates for the victory increased up to a dozen: there are five leaders with 8 points and seven players with 7 points catching them up. Surnames of the leaders have not changed; these are Ainur Shaibakov (Russia), Evgueni Watoetin (Belarus), Ndiaga Samb (Senegal) Thomy Lucien Mbongo (Cameroon) and Andrei Tolchykau (Belarus).

In the A-final, defeat of Alexander Schwarzman (Russia) by Marc Ndjofang (Cameroon) is the most unexpected in the round. And Roel Boomstra (Netherlands) won another victory, this time over outsider Dul Erdenebileg (Mangolia), for whom this is his fourth defeat in a row. Today’s victory made it possible for the Dutch grandmaster to catch up the Championship leader Alexander Georgiev (Russia) on points. Now they have 10 points each. Four participants have one point less; these are Jean-Marc Ndjofang (Cameroon), N’cho Joel Atse (Ivory Coast), Alexander Getmanski (Russia) and Yuriy Anikeev (Ukrain).

The next round will take place on June 17 at 10 a.m.

Pim Meurs: the draughts is most developed in Russia and Holland

pimThe World Draughts Championship continues in Bashkortostan. The grandmaster from Netherlands Pim Meurs shared his impressions on the tournament and his game.

- Unfortunately, I did not get to the Final, although I expected and made every effort in the past two years. (For information, during this period Meurs won a silver medal at the Championship held in Holland in 2013 and a bronze medal at the European Championship.) Now I have ambivalent feelings, as I am worried because in the final there should be more Dutch and Russian sportsmen, as the draughts is most developed in these countries, - the draught player told.

It is worth noting that Dutch love of draughts is so strong that after the tournaments they carefully examine each game with their coach, colleagues and computer.

- For me, it is very important to discuss each combination with coach Rob Clerk to avoid mistakes in future. And for me the most important thing in draughts is to become the champion. So I make every effort and do my utmost to achieve this goal. Most of my time I spend on it. I study a little in the university, learning the food technologies, - said Pim Meurs. It should be noted that according to the results of five rounds of the B-final, Pim Meurs falls one point behind the leading group.

Allan Silva: I am happy that I play with the world best players

alanRight after the 4th round I had a chance to talk to a young player, international grandmaster from Brazil Allan Silva. Today in the B-final of the World Draughts Championship he takes 18th place, and he has 4 points. And despite such poor results, he stays positive, commenting on his game with pleasure and poses for the photographers.

- I am happy that I play with the world best draughts players. A game with the Russian player Ainur Shaibakov is best remembered out of 4 rounds of the B-final. It was interesting and quite complicated on a compositional level.

Allan also shared his impressions on Russia, too.

- I visited Russia three times during competitions. And all these three times I was in Ufa. If to speak not about the sport, then nature here is beautiful and girls are wonderful, - the sportsman added.

For many players, the draughts are life, the main type of activity and a way of earning money. It turned out that my interlocutor is a military man, who studies for the sergeant. He manages to combine his complex masculine profession with the draughts.

- In the Brazilian army, many people play draughts, but as a professional only me. In my free time I like to play football, - the grandmaster told.
